What a great event last Saturday! Cedars-Sinai, Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center and IS Clinical once again pulled out all of the stops to make it a super special CancerCare Spa Day! It was one of the happiest days I've had in a long while!
Enormous thanks to Sherie Goldman and her staff from the Saul & Joyce Brandman Breast Center, IS Clinical, IS Innovative Skincare, all the volunteers including make up artists from Lipstick Angeles, massueses from Massage Oasis, and estheticians from Mary Stella Studio. It was a wonderful day that was filled with fun, education, relaxation, great food, and networking with others who have "been there and done that".
I was so thrilled to be given the opportunity to share my experience getting through the breast cancer experience with all of the attendees at the event. Sherrie had asked me to speak at the event a few weeks ago and give a short "testimonial"about my own journey and the benefits I'd received from Pilates post-surgery, during and after treatment. As a former patient, a "survivor" and because my teaching specialties are restorative Pilates, 40+ women, and women with injuries or recovery issues it was particularly gratifying to me to get such amazing feedback about my speech from so many of the people in the room. To know that I may have touched someone else and helped them in even a small way makes me so happy.
I so enjoyed myself and glad I didn't poop out at the last minute. I've had a really tough week with my elderly Mother and it was an effort to get dressed and just show up, but as usual, I'm so very glad I did. Sometimes just showing up is all you really have to do. Same thing with exercising. It may not be perfect, you may be tired, stressed, down in the dumps, you may not have quite enough time for a full workout, but SOMETIME for yourself, is better than NO TIME.
